This simple application creates a stand-alone¹ dummy application acting as a link or "shortcut" to the main copy of an application.
This resulting dummy application can be saved to a location of your choice.
To create this, drag an application icon to the AppLink iconbar icon, whereupon a save box for the created link application will appear, the icon of which can be dragged to a filer window chosen by the user.
This will have the same name and icon as the original, so the application will refuse to over-write an existing application of the same name, be it the original or a link application.
The resulting application is location-independent, and can be copied elsewhere, even to different media, as it uses full pathnames which include the filing system.
There is also a feature which can recall the current save window if it is accidentally closed by moving the focus to another window, by a Select/Click on the iconbar icon, and an Adjust/Click will close it again if no longer required.
To avoid problems if the boot disc is renamed at some time in the future, the boot discname is replaced with zero in paths referring to it.
Interactive Help is supported.
Warnings:
Warnings will be given if the "application" for which you are creating a shortcut is already a link itself, be it a Resources link, an AppLink link, or a LinkFS link, to give you the choice of whether to proceed or not.
This application can be useful as only one main version of an application need be kept up to date, and any other instances elsewhere can just be links made with AppLink, and these will automatically connect with the current copy if and when it is updated.
The saving on media storage space is less relevant nowadays, except when considering backing-up times, but a typical link might only be 500 or so bytes or less. This means you can use the filer efficiently to provide multiple ways of categorising and filing applications in a logical and easy-to-find way!
¹LinkFS from Tom Hughes does a similar job even more economically and cleverly, but requires a module to be loaded to function.
